Still Life Alla Prima Painting Demo (June 5)
June 5 and 6, 1-4 p.m.
Alla Prima painting is when the painter goes from start to finish in one sitting. Museum Educator, Ellen Flentge, will demonstrate alla prima painting with oils.
“Painting alla prima is a great practice for any artist and good entertainment for those who like to watch others paint. For this still life painting demo, I’ll set up my colorful items and will have either natural light or studio lighting. I can do several paintings in three hours time on small canvases. In each, I can use different categories of color theory, both with how I mix paint and color choices to paint with. You can stretch your imagination and adapt a still life to your heart’s desire using, realism, representational or abstract styles. The colors can be bold and bright, monochromatic, analogous, complimentary, harmonious or even completely different than you see. Many options have to be decided on the spot in alla prima such as what is in focus and what is blurred or dulled to accentuate your main focus,” Flentge says.
Face coverings will be required, and social distancing guidelines will be in place.
